Welcome to the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM). The School is one of the oldest academic units having been established as the department of Institutional Management. The school aims at bridging the training needs and gaps identified in Kenya Vision 2030, National Tourism Policy and Ministry of Tourism’s Strategic plan.

The School envisions being a global leader in hospitality management education. There are many reasons to choose the Murang’a University of Technology's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management to pursue your post-secondary education, from our leading education and training to our welcoming community and beautiful campus.

Students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management programmes choose one area of emphasis to study:

  • Hotel and Lodging;
  • Restaurant and Foodservice; or
  • Events Management
  • Tourism Management.

Our faculty members deliver high-quality education in hospitality management, supported by a progressive series of practical, applied and experiential learning opportunities that take place in one of the world’s premier tourist destinations. Students learn to be guest-focused, innovative and globally aware. They’re also trained to be effective communicators, able to excel in the many facets of this growing industry.

Your choice prepares you to assume a leadership role in an industry with a current shortage of professionals. You will be exposed to the latest principles and practices of hotel operations; foodservices; and tourism policy, planning and development. Students with undergraduate degrees in Hospitality and Tourism Management will find a wide variety of exciting and fast-paced opportunities open to them, including entry-level management positions in tourism, hotels, resorts, cruise lines, restaurants, country clubs, and institutional food service companies.
